Abstract:
The cable dome, proposed by Geiger after extending Fuller's idea of tensegrity, is a new type of space structures. Two forms of cable domes have been applied into engineering projects by now. One is Geiger form and the other is Levy form. Considering the deficiencies in both forms, several new forms of cable domes are proposed in this paper. Based on the concept of integral feasible prestress, the initial prestress state of these domes are also calculated. Numerical results show that the proper grouping of members is the key point to obtain the correct initial prestress state. The present work may serve for the reference of initial design of cable domes.
