The Cable-membrane roof structure of Shenzhen Baoan Stadium is taken as a research case, the form-finding and cable-breaking analyses are performed in the paper. A nonlinear finite element method is applied to the form-finding analysis; the results show that the method could get proper cable pretensions and stable structural shape. An element birth and death method is adopted in the cable-breaking analysis. The results indicated that the breaking of a radial cable would result in the large deformation of a local structure, but would not lead to a progressive breaking of radial cables. The breaking of a ring cable would give rise to a large displacement and looseness of the structure, and would result in failure of the structural system. Based on the cable-breaking analysis, corresponding design strategies are proposed, and the safety protection lines are increased by using full locked cables and special ring cable joints.
