MULTI-PHASE FE MODEL UPDATING ON LONG-SPAN CABLE-SUPPORTED BRIDGES

  • A model updating method considering the construction procedure is presented. In this method, in order to reduce the complexity of updating and increase the accuracy of calculation results, the test, FE modeling and model updating on complex engineering structures are conducted respectively according to the structural construction procedure. Runyang Suspension Bridge (RSB) with a main span of 1490m is taken as an example, and the FE modeling of RSB is divided into two phases of only-tower phase and whole-bridge phase according to the construction procedure. Based on the physical meaning of sensitivity and the first order optimization method, the FE models of the two phases are updated and validated by respectively using measurement data from the field test, and the FE baseline model reflecting the current state of RSB is achieved. Both the dynamic and static measurement results prove the efficiency of the multi-phase FE model updating method applied on long-span suspension bridges. The results obtained provide a research basis for structural health monitoring of the RSB and reference values for FE model updating of other long-span cable-supported bridges.
