EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT RELIABILITY ANALYSIS OF RESTRAINED STONE MASONRY BEARING STRUCTURES

  • In regions with abundant stones, stone structure is usually used. It is favorable with its unique features and good characteristics. However, its earthquake resistant capacity is low due to its poor structural integrity, with severe earthquake damage because of its material characteristics and construction methods. The concept of restrained stone masonry bearing structure is proposed. The earthquake-resistant behavior of the structure is analyzed, and formulas for earthquake resistant strength and shear strength are presented. Fuzzy safety criterion of earthquake-resistant capacity and the reliability calculation method are also proposed. It is demonstrated with examples that the methods are simple, and the formulas are distinct and accord with the design theory in operation. The earthquake-resistant capacity can be increased considerably. The methods can be used as references for the earthquake resistant design of other masonry structures.
