COMPARISON OF PLATE ELEMENT MODELS FOR ANALYSIS OF SHEAR-WALL WITH OPENING IN HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

  • During the finite element analysis of shear-wall with opening in high-rise buildings, how to select an appropriate plate element model possesses important significant for software users. The computational difficulties existing in the plate twist problems were discussed firstly in this paper. Then, for the plate twist problem, the performances of different plate element models, DKE/DSE in SAP2000 and the thin-thick generalized conforming plate element TMQ in SATWE, were compared numerically. Finally, these element models were utilized for the analysis of shear-wall with opening in high-rise buildings. Numerical results show that, the performance of an element model in the twist problem will greatly influence its accuracy for internal force solutions of the shear-wall with opening. It can be demonstrated that the element TMQ in SATWE has obvious advantages when simulating this kind of problem.
