  • Bonding failure is a typical failure mode in FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) strengthened masonry structures. In the paper, the bonding interface between GFRP and clay brick was simulated with ANSYS7.0 by using Solid65 and Shell41 to simulate clay brick and GFRP, respectively. The brick unit and GFRP unit were linked by “compact pairs”. The characteristic of stress and strain of bonding interface and bonding process were studied. It can be shown that it is feasible to simulate the bonding in interface by finite element method.
