DYNAMIC ELASTIC BUCKLING OF CYLINDRICAL SHELLS UNDER TORSIONAL IMPACT BASED ON THE CATASTROPHE THEORY

  • In this paper, the dynamic buckling of elastic cylindrical shells under torsional impact was discussed using the catastrophe theory. The critical step impact torque was given for the perfect shells, and at same time the non-linear dynamic equations for torsional cylindrical shells was solved by a numerical method and the critical impact torque was given by using the B-R criterion. The two results are in good agreement.
