CALCULATION OF FLEXURE STRENGTH FOR SRC ELEMENTS

  • Four calculation methods of fiexure strength of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) elements are introduced in this paper. Based on the plane section assumption, the fiexure strength of SRC can be calculated as reinforced concrete elements. Another theoretical method is universal superposition method, which is based on the lower bound theory of plastic mechanics. These two theoretical methods are precise and in good agreement, hilt they are too complex to be used for design purpose. The simple superposition method, used in Japanese SRC design code, is easy to calculate, but its results are too conservative in some field due to the roughly approximate distribution of axial force. Based on the concept of universal superposition method, a simplified formula of axial force distribution is suggested by the authors. It is shown that the results are more precise than the simple superposition method and in good agreement with the theoretical methods. Besides, the suggested method is easier than the two theoretical methods. An example is provided to demonstrate the introduced methods.
