FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF OIL CASING PIPES IN SWELLING OF ROCKS

  • The finite element analysis of oil casing pipes in swelling rocks is performed. The effect of cement lining is studied. It is found that the maximum radial displacement is located at the interface of the cement lining and the swelling rocks when there exists a cement lining, while the maximum radial displacement is located at the interface of the pipes and the swelling rocks when there does not exist a cement lining. Thus, a cement lining obviously decreases the pressure of the pipes. The pipes are prone to necking under the expanding pressure.
