APPLICATION OF POD TO RECONSTRUCTION OF WIND PRESSURE FIELDS ON PITCHED ROOF

  • This paper discusses the application of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) to the reconstruction of the r andom wind pressure field acting on a pitched roof. The wind pressure time series at non-uniformly distributed pressure taps over the roof were measured simultaneously in a wind tunnel test. With the analysis of eigenvalue-problems of the correlation matrix and the covariance matrix, the r andom pressure field with the mean value and the fluctuating pressure field without the mean value were reconstructed, respectively. The effectiveness of POD in the reconstruction of wind pressure fields of pitched roofs is illustrated by comparing with original data in the time domain and frequency domain. Regularity of reconstruction of the fluctuating pressure field in different region of the roof is summarized. It is found that the first eigenvector of the correlation matrix is sufficient to reconstruct the time-averaged pressure field.
