NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF SHPB TEST OF CONCRETE

  • The stress wave shape, stress variation, stress-strain curves and the destruction process of concrete specimens during the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test were simulated under an impact compression load using the finite element analysis software LS-DYNA. The simulation results were similar to the experiment results. The simulation results showed that the stress waves of the concrete specimens experienced a round vibration prior to approximate stability during the SHPB test and that the concrete specimens were destroyed slightly behind the maximum stress. It was also found that the concrete specimens were destroyed initially from the edge and finally to the center.
