ENHANCING ANTI-SEISMIC AND ANTI-PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE CAPACITY OF STEEL FRAME JOINTS WITH NEW ENERGY DISSIPATION PLATES

  • To improve the limited anti-collapse capacity of fully welded joints under earthquake and progressive collapse conditions, new energy dissipation plates (NEDPs) were proposed. Firstly, the mechanical properties of the NEDP under monotonic load and cyclic load were revealed through the combination of test, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis. Then, the design method of the joint with NEDPs was given by considering the synergy of the NEDP and the joint under the condition of earthquake and progressive collapse. The results show that the mechanical properties of the NEDP are different under monotonic loading and cyclic loading, with tensile damage under monotonic load and shear damage under cyclic load. The results show that the anti-seismic and anti-progressive collapse design method of the joint with NEDPs is reasonable. Under the condition of earthquake and progressive collapse, the joint with NEDPs experiences the stage of forming double plastic areas and the hardening stage. The difference between the seismic and progressive collapse properties of the joint with NEDPs is reflected in the hardening stage. The increase of the NEDPs can effectively improve the bearing capacity, deformation and energy dissipation capacity of fully welded joints under earthquake and progressive collapse conditions.
