STUDY ON HYSTERETIC MODEL OF SHEAR-TYPE METAL DAMPER

  • Shear-type metal dampers have been widely used in new construction and seismic strengthening of structures. Their hysteretic models are the basis for nonlinear seismic response analysis of overall structures. To describe the shear force-deformation relationships of shear-type metal dampers more accurately, a new hysteretic model considering performance degradation is proposed. The new model is controlled by independent parameters to consider the degradation of strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity under large deformations. Based on the model proposed, a computer program for seismic analysis of shear-type metal dampers is developed by C++ language and embedded in OpenSees software. The model is used to simulate the experimental hysteresis curves of two types of shear-type metal dampers: steel coupling beams and steel shear walls. The results show that: the model proposed can simulate the experimental results accurately and the hysteretic performance of the shear-type metal dampers in the whole deformation range including large deformations, and can be used for nonlinear seismic analysis of structures installed with shear-type metal dampers.
