Experimental study on flexural behavior of steel wire- sprayed ultra high toughness cementitious composites thin plates

  • Sprayed Ultra high toughness cementitious composites (UHTCC) can be still characterized by stain-hardening and multiple fine crack opening properties, but its tensile and flexural strength are not high enough to fulfill the high tensile or flexural strength requests in the repair and retrofitting for some special structures. Thus, steel wire gauze was introduced to reinforce sprayed UHTCC. Four-points bending tests were carried on a kind of steel wire gauze reinforced fine grained concrete (SRC), sprayed UHTCC (SU) and steel wire gauze reinforced sprayed UHTCC (SSU), respectively, and this kind of SRC possesses comparable failure tensile strength to SSU. The tests results indicate that the steel wire gauze reinforced sprayed UHTCC (SSU) possess 69.8% higher flexural strength and 59.0% higher mid-span deflection than sprayed UHTCC, respectively. Moreover, SSU has a 3.9 times of flexural strength and 73.3% of ultimate flexural deflection higher than SRC.
