A STUDY ON PILE SETUP BASED ON MEASURED IN SITU DATA

  • It is known that after installation, pile capacity increases with time. This phenomenon is called setup. The setup factor, which is affected by many factors such as soil, pile type and installation method, is often used to evaluate this phenomenon. At present, empirical relationships are often offered for quantifying setup. To incorporate it into pile design, a relatively simple relationship requiring less complicated test data and parameters is needed. In this paper, based on the database, the relationship between setup rate and time is established according to the measured data from in situ tests of 131 piles. The results show that they have a good linear relationship in the double logarithmic coordinates. The formulas are presented according to the analysis mentioned above, and another 49 piles are used to verify them. It is found that the predicted capacities with the proposed formulas are in good agreement with the measured data.
