THE SIMULATION OF SOIL STRUCTURE INTERACTION BACED ON SUBSTRUCTURING TESTING

  • Due to the limitation of output and size of loading systems, traditional soil structure interaction testing can only be used in the reduced scale models. Experimental facilities are limited for testing the seismic behavior of soil structure interactions for large and long structures such as long-span spatial structures and bridges. In Real-time Dynamic Substructure (RTDS) testing, the part which cannot be modeled is tested physically and the rest part is simulated numerically. The two parts work together so that it can simulate the whole structure. In this paper, the soil structure interaction was simulated through RTDS. A whole structure model and a hybrid dynamic substructure model were established and verified experimentally and numerically. The seismic behavior of continuous rigid frame bridges and long-span continuous rigid frame high pier bridges with consideration of the soil structure interaction was discussed respectively, using the substructuring testing methods developed by this paper. The results demonstrate the value of the method.
