RESEARCH ON THE CONTROL OF DISPLACEMENT BETWEEN PIER AND GIRDER OF CONTINUOUS RIGID FRAME BRIDGE WITH HIGH PIERS IN MOUTAIN AREA

  • As a common type of structure, continuous rigid frame bridges with high piers are widely used in western China. However, methods for restraining the seismic displacement between pier and girder are rarely researched. Considering the effect of the period ratio of adjacent girders and the self-vibration period of transitional pier, a reasonable design concept of such bridges is discussed parametrically and the effect of different restrainers on controlling displacement is investigated. Results show that displacement between pier and girder is greatly reduced when the self-vibration period of transitional pier approaches that of adjacent girders; installation of laminated rubber bearings and elastic-plastic restrainers on transitional piers can effectively control the displacement between pier and girder; unseating prevention devices have the effect of reducing displacement when a specific period ratio is satisfied.
