EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON RESIDUAL STRESS DISTRIBUTION ALONG OPEN HOLE SECTIONS OF CELLULAR STEEL COMPONENTS

  • The welding residual stress distribution along open hole sections of seven cellular steel members were studied using the blind hole method. Comparisons of the magnitude and the distribution of longitudinal welding residual stress for cellular components with hexagonal and circular holes were conducted under different hole opening rates and opening methods. Results show that the opening shape has little impact on the distribution of welding residual stress. The peak value of residual stress decreases as the value of the opening rate increases. The residual stress distribution of cellular components with direct web openings is different from that with web plate welding after cutting. Based on the experimental data, the welding residual stress distribution of cellular components with different opening schemes was proposed. This study is expected to provide useful information for subsequent analysis on the overall stability and bearing capacity of cellular components.
