APPLICATION OF INHOMOGENEOUS MODEL TO COMPUTATIONS OF VENTILATED CAVITATING FLOWS AROUND AN AXISYMMETRIC BODY

  • The application of inhomogeneous model to computations of ventilated cavitating flows are studied based on water tunnel experimentations. The ventilated cavitating flows around an axisymmetric body with a cavitator are numerically computed with the homogeneous and inhomogeneous model respectively, and compared with the experimental results. The results show that compared with homogeneous model, the inhomogeneous model generates accurate simulation of cavity shapes variation, unsteady characteristics and velocity distribution of ventilated cavitating flows around axisymmetric body with a cavitator. The detailed process of the re-entrant jet flow at cavitating region can be captured by the inhomogeneous model due to the consideration of the interaction between the two phases.
