ANALYSIS OF A DISC BRAKE HIGH FREQUENCY SQUEAL AND REDUCTION

  • A disc brake generates high frequency squeal at 13 KHz, and cannot be reduced by introducing noise insulators and cutting chamfers at pad ends. A complete close-loop coupling modal synthesis model is built. A series of analytic methods, including complex eigenvalue analysis, substructure modal composition analysis, substructure modal parameter sensitivity analysis and feed-in energy analysis, etc. is utilized to perform a systematic analysis. Substructure modal parameters which are critical to the squeal problem are found and structure modification directions are identified. The modification is performed through optimization design. The results are verified through simulation.
