RESPONSES OF AN ELASTIC CYLINDER WITH GENERAL ELASTIC SUPPORTS AT BOTH ENDS SUBJECTED TO CROSS FLOW

  • The cross-flow-induced vibration phenomenon of a single elastic cylinder with general elastic support's boundary in cylinder array was performed in this paper. The governing equation of motion was established considering the effect of lateral deflection on axial force. The stability of system and its nonlinear behavior were analyzed with different fluid velocity. By means of the bifurcation diagram, phase diagram and Poincare map diagram, the effect of the fluid velocity variation on the cylinder vibration was shown. Results show that the initial axial force decreases the stability of the cylinder; and as fluid velocity increases the motion of system changes from periodic state to quasi-periodic state, and no chaotic motion occurs to the system.
