SOIL LAYER SETTLEMENT OF COMPACTED AEOLIAN SAND FOUNDATIONS

  • An experimental study on the settlement of aeolian sand foundations improved by dynamic compaction is carried out. The site soil conditions, the field test arrangement, and the settlement test method are introduced. The test results of the ground surface settlement at the impact point during tamping and the soil-layer settlement beneath the impact point after tamping are given and analyzed. Then the results are processed by nonlinear data fitting, yielding governing laws for the ground surface settlement and the soil-layer settlement. It is found that the change in impact point settlement with the number of drops can be described by a hyperbolic function, and the soil-layer settlement along the depth can be described by an exponential function. Some conclusions about the improvement depth are also obtained.
