RESEARCH ON LOCAL BUCKLING STABILITY BEHAVIOR OF COMPRESSION FLANGES IN H-SHAPED MEMBERS WITH CORRUGATED WEB

  • A theoretical model was proposed according to the characteristic of local buckling of flanges in H-shaped members with corrugated web. The compression flange was taken as an elastic slab which is simply supported at the two loaded sides, while the rotation of the unloaded side is restrained elastically. A formula for calculating the elastic buckling stress of the compression flange was developed theoretically. Numerical analyses were then performed to investigate the validity of the proposed formula. The influence of the tension flanges, the length of the beam and the parameters of the corrugated web on the local buckling stability of compression flanges was discussed. Limit value of the width-to-thickness ratio was suggested for design based on numerical analysis results.
