EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON HYSTERETIC BEHAVIOR OF ECCENTRICALLY WEB MEMBERS STAGGERED TRUSS

  • To improve the energy dissipation performance of a staggered truss, an eccentrically web members staggered-truss (EWST) and a mixed eccentrically web members staggered-truss (MEWST) are proposed by filling Y eccentrically web members between the vertical web member of a staggered truss. Two kinds of truss specimen were carried out under low reversed cyclic loading. The hysteretic behavior, energy dissipation, ductility, bearing capacity and rigidity degeneration of specimens are analyzed. Results show that: the hysteresis loops of eccentrically web members of a staggered-truss are plump and the structure can dissipate the input energy well. The hysteretic loops of the links are plumper than the loops of the whole structure; the energy inputted into specimens is mainly dissipated by the links. Both energy dissipation coefficients and displacement ductility of two specimens are close. The deformation of the EWST is better than the MEWST. The bearing capacity decreases slowly in each cyclic loading level, it decreases quickly when specimens close to collapse. The stiffness of the MEWST is higher than that of the EWST, and the stiffness of the former structure decreases more rapidly than the other one.
