EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SPLICING CONCRETE-FILLED GFRP TUBE COMPOSITE MEMBERS CONNECTED WITH STEEL BARS SUBJECTED TO AXIAL LOADING

  • The splicing concrete-filled GFRP tube composite member connected with steel bars is a new kind of composite member, which is formed by connecting two independent GFRP tubes with a steel bar cage and pouring concrete inside tubes. In recent years, many domestic and overseas researchers have done some research on the mechanical property of the continuous concrete-filled GFRP tube members. But the study on the mechanical property of the splicing concrete-filled GFRP tube members is relatively scarce. Therefore, it is necessary to study the mechanical property of the splicing composite member by experiment. The experimental research on the performance of splicing concrete-filled GFRP tubes composite members connected with steel bars subjected to axial loading was done. And the test results showed that the GFRP tube started to produce the hoop effect when the load reached 60%Pu (Pu-the limit load), and the damage location of the splicing member occurred in some distance from the joint, which was different from that of the continuous member. Besides, the hoop steel bars had binding effect on concrete. At the same time, all the vertical steel bars yielded and had no influence on the deformation of the joint. And the joint of the splicing members did not destroy, this implies that using the low content of the connecting steel bars (1.96%) could guarantee the regular work of the splicing GFRP tube axial-compression composite members.
