STATIC PUSHOVER TEST OF THREE-STORY STEEL PLATE SHEAR WALLS

  • The failure mode, curves of base shear versus roof displacement and inter-story drift, maximum out-of-plane displacement, bearing capacity and ductility performance were obtained from the static pushover test of three-story steel frame-steel plate shear wall systems subjected to horizontal monotonic loading. The prototype structure of specimen was designed according to the corresponding design codes in China. The results show that the shear walls don’t undergo buckling and the structure remains fully elastic under the calculated design load. The yielding occurs firstly in the lower right corner of the infill panel at the second story, but the maximum out-of-plane deformation appears in the bottom shear panel at later loading stage. With good capacity of plastic deformation, the specimen’s strength drops very slowly after the peak value and the displacement ductility coefficient reaches 5.24. At the end of test, the second story has the maximum inter-story drift and the corresponding inter-story drift ratio is 0.0447rad. The local buckling with two-half-wave shape occurs in the flange of steel column base and the outward buckling due to the compression force appears at the web.
