A CONSOLIDATION THEORY FOR ONE-DIMENSIONAL LARGE DEFORMATION PROBLEMS UNDER COMBINED ACTION OF LOAD AND ELECTROOSMOSIS

  • The reinforcement of soft foundation by load and electroosmosis was a challenge involving large deformation consolidation. In this paper, a one-dimensional nonlinear large deformation consolidation theory in terms of excess pore-water pressure was derived in Lagrangian coordinate on the basis of Esrig#x02019;s consolidation theory. Then the corresponding analytical solutions for excess pore-water pressure, settlement, average degree of consolidation and void ratio were obtained. The behavior of one-dimensional nonlinear large deformation consolidation under action of load and electroosmosis was studied and compared with that analyzed by the Esrig#x02019;s consolidation theory. It is shown that the presented theory is more appropriate for practice and its analytical solution may be used to verify other numerical solutions of the large deformation consolidation problems under the combined action of load and electroosmosis.
