NUMERICAL ANALYSIS FOR SEISMIC BEHAVIOR OF SEMI-RIGID STEEL BEAM-TO-COLUMN CONNECTION WITH TOP-AND-SEAT ANGLES

  • The calculation for yield load and initial stiffness of the angles of a semi-rigid steel structure is introduced. Based on the tension and compression test results of the angles, the accuracy of calculation for yield load and initial stiffness of the angles are verified and the formula of yield load is modified. The hysteresis model of the angles under repeated tension and compression was proposed. Based on the finite element software OpenSEES, the angle connection element is developed and the modeling method for the semi-rigid steel structure with top-and-seat angle connections is proposed. The cyclic tests of the semi-rigid steel connections with top and seat angles and the shaking table tests of the semi-rigid steel frame with top and seat angles are numerical analyzed. The numerical simulation results and experimental results are compared. The results showed that the modeling method has the advantages of fewer elements, fewer degrees of freedom, modeling convenience, computational efficiency and fewer time-consuming. The numerical simulation results from the proposed method agree well with experimental results, the precision can satisfy the engineering requirements.
