Abstract:
The engineered cementitious composite (ECC) is one of high strength, high toughness of ecological building materials, and it has broad application prospects in civil engineering. To develop the toughness and shear capacity of ECC,a new technique is proposed for strengthening brick walls with ECC splint. Two unreinforced brick walls and two brick walls with ECC splint were designed and the quasi-static tests were carried out.The results showed that: the bonding properties between the ECC splint and the brick wall are good. The ECC splint of strengthened brick walls can effectively limit the cracking and damage of the wall, and improve the ductility and energy dissipation capacity as well as the damage tolerance of the wall.It can also improve the brittle shear failure modes of brick wall and reduce the post-earthquake retrofit costs of masonry structures.
