Abstract:
Corrosion results in the reduction of loading capacity of pipelines. Based on Hill yielding criterion, a set of generalized solutions are proposed for predicting the ultimate bending capacity of pipelines with arbitrary shaped corrosion defects subject to combined internal pressure, axial force and bending moment. Anisotropy in longitudinal, circumferential and radial directions of pipe strength is considered in proposed solutions. General program CPC using numerical method is developed to calculate the ultimate bending capacity of corroded pipe and better prediction can be achieved when actual corrosion shape is taken into account.
