Abstract:
The problem of calculating the stress intensity factor in a cracked plate repaired by composite patches was dealt with in two steps. First, suppose the plate was not cracked and bonded by composite patches over the prospective location of crack. The stress at the prospective location of crack in the plate was determined by generalized plane stress theory of elasticity.Second, suppose that a crack was introduced into the plate and the stress intensity factor was estimated. The results are in good agreement with the values derived from finite element method and experiments.
