Abstract:
In the area where water depth is large that excludes the use of a bottom-fixed structure, floating breakwater is the option due to its light weight, mobility, economics, and water exchange capacity.Floating breakwater also protects deep-water fish cages against severe waves and currents.A original floating breakwater —board-net floating breakwater was physically investigated in laboratory. The relationships between the wave dissipation coefficient and the wave period, board width, net number, board stiffness, and current direction and velocity were investigated.Regular waves of height 2.5,4.5 and 6.0 m with periods ranging from 6.0 to 10.0 seconds were used. The water depth was 20 m.The results show that the proposed breakwater has good wave dissipation capacity, but its design parameter should be considered according to the wave and current conditions in the vicinity of the breakwater.
