Abstract:
Considering the influence of centrifugal force of inertia (design speed), the strength calculation and optimum design of a hollow cast steel roll with axle sleeve of the high-speed paper machine are studied. The general formulas for calculating the contact pressure are derived from the theory of elasticity. Based on the concept of equal-strength design, the formulas for maximum Tresca equivalent stresses in the roll body and the axle sleeve are established and a method to calculate the optimum interference values is described. For a certain design speed, the example gives the curves which can be used for the structural optimal design of a cast steel roll. The present method and analytical solutions are expected to be useful in the strength calculation and optimum design of various rotatory ductile-material components with double-interference-fit construction.
