Abstract:
It is assumed that the differential equation of the deflection curve is valid for piles on elastic foundation; the effect of shear on the deflection curve of the pile has been taken into account in the equation. Based on the equation, the deformation of piles on Wieghardt foundation was deduced considering the compatibility of deflection, angular rotation, moment and shear of adjacent pile elements. The equations for angular rotation, moment and shear of the piles could also be obtained from their differential relationships with deflection. The example shows that the results obtained by the proposed method were consistent with those by the finite element method; the Wieghardt foundation model is superior to the traditional Winkler foundation model; and the Wieghardt foundation model preferably simulates the influence of surroundding soil on pile bearing, restraint and horizontal displacement.
