Abstract:
The bad effect of sea sand to durability of a concrete structure is investigated, on the basis of the main ingredient and features of sea sand and its application status, by the analysis of the corrosion mechanism of steels. Based on the potential danger of durable life of houses with sea sand, and combined with the engineering experiences and lessons of reinforcing bar corrosion caused by sea salt, the paper focuses on the critical technique about reinforcing bar corrosion protection of sand concrete and puts forward a key method to prevent it by contrasting the principle and application of a cathode protection system and chlorine exclusion by electrochemistry. According to the actual demands about the durability of a concrete structure in the “Chinese Code for design of concrete structures”, the paper points out the prescribed limits in chlorate of sea sand and puts up some preventive measures on damage to the durability of the concrete structure caused by sea sand.
