Abstract: This paper demonstrates the responsibility and role of mechanics when pursuing ‘the Chinese Dream of the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation’. The paper contains 9 parts:1) mechanics; 2) science and technology; 3) civil engineering; 4) hydraulic engineering; 5) transportation; 6) energy engineering; 7) one-belt-one-road; 8) strengthening national defense; 9) conclusions. This paper systematically summaries the major achievements about the application of mechanics after 1949 and 1978. The four authors are the editors-in-chief of Engineering Mechanics journal, subsequently. This paper is written to celebrate the success of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It is also to memorialize the 60th anniversary of the report by Prof. Xuesen Qian on ‘Working on the the Great Leap Forward of Mechanics’. Prof. Qian's report had significant impact on the application of mechanics in different disciplines in China.
