Abstract:
The self-sustaining equilibrium of inflow boundary conditions for atmosphere boundary layers (ABL) is a precondition for computational wind engineering (CWE). However, this basic requirement has been neglected or unsatisfied in many published studies. This paper first reviews the state-of-the-art of this problem. Subsequently, inflow boundary conditions for general CWE are derived based on the SST
k-ω turbulence model and the assumption of equilibrium turbulence. Values for key turbulence model closure coefficients are proposed for wind field simulation on the scale of topography. A three-dimensional (3D) wind field simulation was conducted with a flat topography, and the wind velocity profile demonstrated a satisfactory level of self-sustaining. Finally, the wind field of a mountainous topography is simulated and results show good agreement with field measurement.
