INVESTIGATION ON RUNNING-TRAIN-INDUCED GROUND VIBRATIONS NEAR RAILWAY

  • A field experiment was carried out near the Beijing-Guangzhou railway line to study the ground vibrations induced by running trains. The train speed in the experiment was from 21km/h to 128km/h. The experimental results show that the frequencies of ground vibrations induced by moving trains range from 10Hz to 100Hz and train speed has some effect on the horizontal vibration frequencies. Generally, the ground vibration levels attenuate with the distance to the track with certain waving patterns. The ground vibrations induced by freight trains are about 10dB bigger than those by passenger trains in three directions. The vertical vibration is greater than those of the other two directions: which are 60dB―110dB in vertical, 50dB―95dB in horizontal and perpendicular to the track, and 55dB―80dB in horizontal but parallel to the track, respectively. The measured ground vibrations near the tracks induced by running trains exceed the allowance given in the relevant code for environmental vibrations, which shows that the running-train-induced environmental vibrations and the related prevention measures should be further studied.
