THE SIMULATION OF STEEL CATENARY RISERS IN DEEPWATER WITH FLEXIBLE CABLE MODEL

  • The steel catenary riser (SCR) and mooring line have been simulated with an extensible flexibility cable model based on the assumption of a large deformation in bending and small extension. The interactions between SCR and seabed as well as the motion of vessel have been taken into account also in the simulation at same time. A code, called V-Cable3D, which calculates the response of SCR with vessel/moorings as an integral structure has been developed based on the code Cable3D. The response of SCR induced by the out-plane offset of vessel has been calculated. It is shown that the stress cycle could be produced by the out-plane offset of vessel in the case of the interaction of SCR with seabed.
