Abstract
The roller or lead-rubber bearings between the upper structure and the foundation could isolate the seismic vibration. The former could not be used solely because it could not provide a restoring force. In this research, the isolation effect of a new type of an isolation system combined with roller and lead-rubber bearings in some way was investigated. The lead-rubber bearings and two kinds of combined systems different in the bearing ratio of roller-lead rubber have been used separately in strengthening an old building, The isolation effects of 3 groups of models are obtained by calculating the seismic response and comparing with non-isolated program. The result shows that both lead rubber bearings and the combined isolation system can reduce the seismic response evidently and the latter is more effective.
