EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON HYSTERIC PERFORMANCE OF STRENGTHENED COMPLETELY OVERLAPPED TUBULAR JOINTS

  • In order to study the hysteretic behaviour of strengthened completely overlapped tubular joints, experimental tests are carried out to an unreinforced completely overlapped tubular joint and two strengthened specimens with different reinforced methods. Axial low cycle loadings are applied to the free end of the overlapped brace using a displacement control method. The failure mode is studied, and the ductility and energy dissipation are analyzed. It can be concluded that: Partly increasing the thickness of the through brace can efficiently prevent local buckling occurrence on the through brace; The hysteretic performance can be greatly improved by increasing the thickness of the through brace and placing a internal sleeve in the through brace, also the bearing capacity and the energy dissipation can be improved, but brittle failure may occur on the chord.
