THE USE OF MULTIPIER SHEAR WALL ANALYSIS METHOD FOR SUPERSTRUCTURE-FOUNDATION INTERACTION

  • The interaction problem between soil foundation and upper frame structure in tall buildings is here introduced. If the subgrade reaction to the box-foundation under vertical load is known, the internal forces in box-foundation and upper frame structure is similar to the multipier shear wall under horizontal forces Hence, under vertical load, the soil and super structure interaction may be considered as a multi-pier shear wall lied on compressible foundation and is analyzed by use of link method which was suggested by Russian professor. Some examples for box and raft foundations are calculated and discussions about design problems for foundations of tall buildings are illustrated in this paper.
