The multitooth contact problem of the crown gear coupling is analysed by using 3-D BEM. Actual measurements on a specially designed test bed are made. By theoretical and experimental research, the number of actual contact teeth has been obtained and verified. This article provides a starting point for further researches in this field and for the establishment of elastic mesh principle.
