SHEAR STRENGTH OF SIMPLY SUPPORTED REINFORCED CONCRETE DEEP BEAMS BASED ON PLASTIC METHOD (Ⅱ)

  • Two shear strength failure mechanisms of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams are established, using kinematics approach. The plastic theory and the upper bound method given in the companion paper are employed. Through calculation and analysis, the limit loads of the failure mechanisms are obtained. An example of the deep beams with both horizontal and vertical steel web reinforce is presented to assess the correctness of the models. Data of 131 test beams are collected to evaluate the proposed mechanisms. The computational results of these test beams are analyzed statistically. Statistical results show that the calculation solutions from these two failure mechanism models are in good agreement with the test results, verifying the models and the calculation method in the paper.
