  • Developments in dynamic reliability theory over the last few decades are reviewed. The safety and serviceability of bridge structures under dynamic excitations including vehicle, wind and earthquake actions are discussed in comparison with the first passage failure problem. An experimental method for damage assessmentof railway bridge piers under earthquake is presented and discussed.
