BUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF SHUTTLE-SHAPED LATTICED TUBIFORM COLUMN UNDER AXIALLY COMPRESSIVE LOAD

  • Shuttle-shaped Latticed Column(SLC), as a new type of structural member, has been applied in many long-span public buildings recently because of its structural performance and aesthetical value. It is formed with longitudinal steel tubes and horizontal diaphragm steel tubes. This paper addersses its elastic buckling load and buckling mode under axial loading. A comprehensive study of influences of structural geometric parameter on SLC behavior is presented. These parameters include the SLC length, the SLC slenderness ratio, section property of longitudinal and horizontal tubes, the number of diaphragm tube sets, and so on. A new and interesting buckling mode is extracted from the numerical results, which is quite different from prismatic latticed column. SLC buckles in a mode of single wave or “S” wave, which is dependent on SLC geometric parameters.
