  • Wanjiazhai yellow river diversion project (YRDP) is a large-scale inter-basin water diversion project. The objectives of YRDP are to accommodate the water shortage in Shanxi, and to promote the economic development and the sustainable development of ecological environment. Simultaneously, the project can accelerate the development of new energy and the heavy chemical industry base of our country. Wanjiazhai YRDP lines composition and layout of the hydraulic structures are introduced. Additionally, tunnel boring machine, water transmission of pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe and technology of digital tensioning on pre-stressed concrete are proposed. The application of the three technologies in the first stage of YRDP is presented. Through studies on the three momentous technologies, practical construction methods and measure are put forward to suit engineering conditions and to solve construction problems. The conclusions could provide valuable experiences for the similar construction of water diversion projects.
