FEM ANALYSIS ON ICE-BENDING FAILURE MODE WITH WIDTH EFFECT OF ICE-CONE INTERACTION

  • The ice sheet bending failure against ice breaking in cone can be distinguished into radial crack mode and circumferential crack mode. The ice-cone interacting behaviors have been analyzed with different contact widths on the basis of 3D finite element method (FEM). The circumferential and radial stress distributions have been considered at different ice-cone contact widths during the numerical simulations. The failure criterions with transition variations are presented with different contact widths. The mechanisms describing two failure modes are also analyzed.
