  • explosive loading; RC column; At present, the blast has become one of the main disasters that threat seriously society and human lives. A progressive collapse of RC frame structure maybe occur during a detonation event when an initiating localized failure causes adjoining members to be overloaded and fail, resulting in some damages disproportionate to the originating region of localized failure. Therefore, RC columns become one of the important members in RC structures. In the paper, the blast pressures under different explosive amount and various distances are calculated numerically. The responses and damages for the RC column under the explosive load are analyzed by the finite element method (FEM) to simulate numerically the behaviors of columns. The damages of the RC column are divided into four levels and the safe distance was given. The results of the simulation show that the proposed method is effective in analysis of RC members under blast loads.
