A SIMPLIFIED CALCULATION METHOD FOR INITIAL PRESTRESS OF LEVY CABLE DOMES WITH THE CONSIDERATION OF SELF-WEIGHT

  • A simplified calculation method for initial prestress of Levy cable domes with the consideration of self-weight was proposed in this paper through assuming the self-weight of cable, strut and joint as equivalent nodal forces. Based on the nodal equilibrium equations, the general equations for computing the initial prestress of domes with and without inner hoops are deduced. The initial prestress with and without consideration of self-weight were compared. The vertical displacements of domes subjected to self-weight were also studied. The results showed that the internal forces of inner ridge cables and inner hoops decrease and internal forces of the rest of cables increase. The displacement of the dome without of self-weight was larger than that under self-weight and the dome deviated from the designed geometry due to the deformation. Finally the process for prestress design of cable domes with the consideration of self-weight was presented.
